Mr. James L. "Jimmy" Morrison

Mr. James L. “Jimmy” Morrison, age 77 of Stuart, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2013 at his home. He was born in Patrick County on April 7, 1936 to the late Joe Will and Lelia Staples Morrison. In addition to his parents, Mr. Morrison was preceded in death by three sisters, Virginia M. Rorrer, Louise M. Brammer and “Tootsie” M. Scott, and two brothers, Willie and Calvin Morrison. He had served in the United States Army, was a farmer, an auctioneer, and had retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation with 35 years of service. He was a longtime member of Sycamore Baptist Church where he held various positions, was a member of Stuart Rotary Club and a member of the American Red Poll Association and Blue Ridge Red Poll Association.
Mr. Morrison is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Williams Morrison of the home; one son, J. L. Morrison, Jr. of Stuart; one grandson, Lt. Justin P. Morrison of Corpus Christi, Texas; one sister, Lucille M. Nolen of Eden, North Carolina; and one sister-in-law, Ruth Morrison of Stuart.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Sycamore Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald Melton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home.
