Mrs. Edith Mae Marion Jones, 87, of Cana, VA went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 8, 2020. She was born in Carroll County, VA, April 15, 1932 to the late William Henry Marion, Jr. and Lela Mae Marion. Mrs. Jones married the love of her life Harlie Weldon Jones, and was married for 41 years prior his death. They worked together to build their family and instilled Christian values and God’s unconditional love and affection. She enjoyed life to its fullest. First and foremost she believed in Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and witnessed that to others. She was a dedicated member of Paul’s Creek Baptist Church and served her church throughout her life as a Sunday School Teacher and with a ministry of sending cards to lift people up and let them know she was praying for them. Mrs. Jones was a well-known teacher in Carroll County Public Schools for over 30 years, including 12 years as a teacher’s assistant and after graduation from Radford University as a first grade teacher. She loved her students and treasured the years working with them. She shared her stories of traveling to many state from Florida to Washington State including the mid-west and Grand Canyon. She visited various countries including Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, France, Switzerland and Luxembourg. Mrs. Jones was an avid gardener exchanging varieties of flowers with family, friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed genealogy and had many visitors and correspondence sharing the history, stories and pictures she had collected in her research. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Beate Jones of Hellingen, Germany; and three daughters and a son-in-law, Susan Jones Edwards, Sharon Marie Jones, and Sheila and Jerry Marsh all of Cana. Mrs. Jones treasured her six grandchildren and spouses: Angela Scott, Lukas Jones, Derrick and Denise Gray, Mitchell Edwards, Brittany and Trent Young and Brandi and Elam Summey; and six great grandchildren, Dillon Scott, Gavin Gray, Bella Gray, Audree Edwards, Violet Young, and “baby girl” Young soon to be born. She is also survived by a sister, Lucille Evans of Cana, VA, and two brothers and sisters-in-law, James Edsel and Louise Marion of Stuart, VA and William Walter Marion of Ames, Iowa and a sister-in-law Betty Marion of Galax, VA as well as many nieces and nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Jones was preceded in death, a special brother, Rev. Jimmie Marion, and a sister Opal McCraw. Funeral services will be held at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 11, 2020 by Rev. Justin McCreary. Burial will follow in the Jesse Jones Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:30 until 1:45 PM.
