Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Lynch Gates, 91, of Mt. Airy passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Surry Community Health and Rehab in Mt. Airy. She was born in Stokes County on September 4, 1926 to the late Merlin and Delia Heath Lynch. Mrs. Gates retired from Spencer’s and was a long-time member of Flat Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Helen Bowen and Billy; a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny Gates and Linda; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gates was preceded in death by her husband, Haywood Gates; daughter, Treva Beck; sisters, Nonnie Medlin and Bonnie O’Quinn; and brothers, Zeb Lynch, Penn Lynch and James Lynch. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Flat Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church with Dr. David Sparks officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9:30 until time for the service at the church. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Flat Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church, 120 Pentecostal Holiness Church Rd., Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Majure and to the nurses, and CNA’s of Surry Community Health and Rehab, and to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for the love and care given to Frances.
