Alberta Jeanette Garrett Hawes

        Mrs. Alberta Jeanette Garrett Hawes, age 94 of Stuart, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at her home.  She was born in Morris County, Kansas on May 26, 1929 to the late Thomas Albert Garrett and Margaret Jane Campbell Garrett.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hawes was preceded in death by her beloved husband, L. Clinton Hawes; a daughter, Gayla Kilgroe; two brothers, Ralph Ernest Garrett and wife, Nira, and Clifford Lyle Garrett.  Mrs. Hawes was a member of Stuart Presbyterian Church.  Prior to her marriage, she was a teacher in a one room schoolhouse and after raising her family, she worked in administration at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina.  She enjoyed travelling extensively with her husband and had a God-given gift of caretaking.  She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, and caring grandmother.

        Mrs. Hawes is survived by her children, Rebecca Johnson (Dana), Wardlow Hawes (Sharyon), Jeanette Redman (Danny); eight grandchildren, Kenneth, Michael, Alex, Rachel, Megan, Christina, Ashley, and Lucy; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Garrett.

        A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Stuart Presbyterian Church with Pastor Danny Redman officiating.  Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stuart Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 944, Stuart, Virginia or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mt.
