Mrs. Alma Stephens Branch Mitchell
Mrs. Alma Mitchell , age 93 and a resident of Central Continuing Care in Mt. Airy went to here heavenly home, Saturday March 21, 2015.
Mrs. Mitchell was born June 1, 1921 to the late James Arthur Stephens and Cora Etta Hill of Stokes County. In 1938, she married John Elgin Branch of Surry County.They lived near Dobson and had three children; Helen Marie, Jimmy Gray, and Ellen Lucille. Alma's husband, Elgin, predeceased her in 1956 and she later married Briscoe Mitchell of Dobson, who predeceased her in 1992.
Alma worked many years in the textile industry in Dobson and Mt. Airy. She had many interests which included: gardening, travelling, quilting with her sister, Lillian; cooking, helping people and singing in her church choir at Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church where she had been a member for many years.
In addition to her parents and husbands, there were thirteen brothers and sisters, her daughter, Helen Villarreal, and husband (Mario) of California; her son Jimmy Gray Branch of Dobson and a son-in-law, Bobby Eugene Duncan, of High Point who also predeceased her.
She is survived by her daughter, Lucille Branch Duncan of High Point and a daughter-in-law, Avanelle (Abby) Hardy Branch of Dobson. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren;Teresa Nations of Oxnard, California, Mark Nations of Ojai, California, James Dean Nations of Beaver Dam, Kentucky, Pam Nations Weissman of Port Ritchy, Florida, Michelle Villarreal of Texas, Dennis Branch of Pfafftown, North Carolina, Penny Branch of Statesville, North Carolina, Fonda Branch Mooney of Mt. Airy, Tommy Branch of Mt. Airy, Emily Duncan LaFrance of Greensboro, North Carolina, And Jeff Duncan of High Point.
Mrs Mitchell also has seventeen great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation Will be Monday, March 23, 2015, from one til three PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson. The Funeral will follow at Three in chapel, with Elder Joey Jenkins and Elder Avery Branch, officiating. Burial will follow in the Fisher River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Fisher River Primitive Baptist Church, in care of Eugen Branch at 411 Red Brush Road, Mt Airy, Nc27030. Or also to Little Vine Primitve Baptist Church in care of Ray Childress at 9122 Highway 268, Elkin, NC 28621. In addition memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
The family would like to thank the employees of Central Continuing Care and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative care for there excellent care and support given to Mrs. Mitchell and Family.
