Alma Frances Nichols Vernon

Mrs. Alma Frances Nichols Vernon, 94, of Mt. Airy passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Surry County on August 29, 1921 to the late Roy and Virginia Cook Nichols. Mrs. Vernon was retired from Renfro and was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 60 years. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joan Cook Martin and Ed of Mt. Airy; seven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a brother, Doug Nichols of Mt. Airy; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Vernon was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Pettis Vernon; two sons, Wade Michael Vernon and Gordon Anthony Vernon; two sisters, Lillian Badgett, and Mary Ann Doss; four brothers, Vance Nichols, Chester "Check" Nichols, Gordon Nichols, and Bill Nichols. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Alex Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
