Mrs. Alpha Mae Collins Collins of Mt. Airy, NC passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2006. Mrs. Collins was born in Patrick County, VA, May 27, 1915 to the late Thomas T. and Minnie Bowman Collins. She was retired from Pine State Knitwear known as "Grandma:" and was of the Baptist Faith. Surviving are seven daughters and sons-in-law, Josephine Norman of Mt. Airy, NC Barbara Jean Collins of Westfield, NJ, Laura Mae and Ed Mears of Milford, DE, Helen McKnett of Smyrna, DE, Joan Poole of Fayetteville, NC, Debbie and Randall Butner of Mt. Airy, NC, Denise Liana of Rising Sun, MD; eleven sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Jackson and Judy Collins of Cana, VA, Leon and Rae Collins of Newark, DE, Ray and Pat Collins of Clark, NJ, Edward and Eileen Collins of Bear, DE, Bill and Susan Collins of Claudville, VA, Danny and Faye Collins of Newport, NC, Roger and Frances Collins of Ararat, VA, David Collins of Pilot Mountain, NC, Mike and Cindy Collins of Ararat, NC, Gary and Kathy Collins of Ocean Pines, MD, Steve and Mary Collins of Linden, NJ; 53 grandchildren; 57 great grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Georgia Puckett of Ararat, VA, Jean and Jack Scott of Ararat, VA, Shirley and Curtis Bowman of Mt. Airy; NC one brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Sue Collins of Fries, VA; and a special friend, Bill Lankford of Pinnacle. Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Collins; two grandsons, Daryl Marshall and Victor Collins; a great granddaughter, Haley Ann Allen; a great grandson, Tristian Daniel Elliott Collins; two sisters, Irene Bowman and Betty Lou Thomas; and three brothers, Thurman, Walter and Harry Collins. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Friday, September, 1, 2006 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy, NC by Rev. Frank Huffman and Rev. Bob Mills with burial to follow at Doe Run Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy and at other times at the home of her daughter Debbie, 231 Cousins Trail, Mt. Airy, NC. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
