Alta Mae Thompson Johnson

Due to power outages in the area the visitation for Miss Johnson has been rescrescheduled for Tuesday night

Mrs. Alta Mae Thompson Johnson, age 77, of Mount Airy passed away peacefully on Saturday morning August 26, 2023, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC.  She was surrounded by her loving family as she entered the gates of Heaven.  Mrs. Johnson was born on May 30, 1946, in Surry County to the late Augustus Parson Thompson and Jennie Gladys Puckett Thompson.  Mrs. Johnson was retired from Lowes Foods after many years of service.  She was loved by many and will be missed dearly.  Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 47 years, Jimmy Ray Johnson of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Randy Goins; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Johnson; seven grandchildren, Dean Goins, Kayla Goins Johnson and Adrian Wood, Ryan and Meagan Goins, Larry Ray Johnson, Jr. and Kristie, Ciara Johnson, Joey Foster, and Autumn Johnson; two great-grandchildren, William Ace Johnson and Ellery Wood; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Brenda and Lewis Senter; brothers-in-law, Roger and Hilda Stone, Buster Coleson, and Dennis Stone; and a special friend, Pam Collins.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her son, Larry Ray Johnson; a sister, Joyce Faye Thompson; and by four brothers, William Thompson, James Edward Thompson, Don Thompson, and Roger Thompson.  The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Tuesday night August 29, 2023, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.  The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Woltz Hospice Home and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for all of the love and support given to Alta and the family during her illness.  Also, they would like to especially thank Misty from Center Well for her special care given to Alta.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Orchard View Community Church, 13821 Fancy Gap Highway, Cana, VA 24317.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
