Alton Lee Jessup

Mr. Alton Lee Jessup, 72, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, September 6, 2022, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  Mr. Jessup was born January 4, 1950, in Surry County, to the late James “Jim” Monroe  and Rachel Annie Dollyhite Jessup.  Alton worked at Proctor Silex/Hamilton Beach for 32 years.  He later retired from the Stokes County School System as a custodian and was of the Methodist faith.  Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Benita Faye Gordon Jessup; five sisters and three brothers-in-laws, Betty Sue Martin, Judy Jessup, Jyl and James Nichols, Patricia and Larry Bohannon, and Pam and Wade Priddy; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rixie and Jerrie Welch-Gordon; a niece; several nephews; several great nieces and nephews; and his beloved fur baby, Cookie.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Jessup was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Page Melissa Jessup; and a brother, Herbert H. Jessup.  A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Mount Herman United Methodist Church Cemetery.  The service will be conducted by the Rev. Rickey Rogers, the Rev. Keith Lawson, and Pastor Diane Harper.  Mr. Jessup will be placed at Mount Herman United Methodist Church at 9:30 AM Saturday for friends and neighbors to pay their respects.  The family will be receiving friends at other times at the home of a sister, Judy Jessup, at 1043 Hooker Road, Mount Airy.  Due to health concerns, the family requests that anyone attending the graveside service to please wear a mask and practice social distancing.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, NC  27030; or Mount Herman United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Sheila Cook, 180 Clearview Trail, Mount Airy, NC  27030.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
