Mrs. Anna Lee Nunn Kidd, 86, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 8, 2025. Mrs. Kidd was born in Stokes County to the late James Donis and Gurther Lee Slate Nunn on April 6, 1939. Anne Lee graduated from Franscisco High School and worked for several years at Spencer’s, Inc., in Mount Airy, but was first and foremost a stay-at-home mother. She also worked on the family tobacco farm, co-owned a custom drapery business, and then co-owned Kidd’s Woodcrafts, and later sat with those who needed someone to take care of them during the later years of their lives.
Mrs. Kidd was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Alcury and Raeford Nunn; her sisters-in-law, Norma and Dot Nunn, who were like sisters to her. She is survived by her three children, Darrell Kidd (Glenna), Marlon Kidd (Crystal), and Carmen Kidd Wilmoth and Andrew; her seven grandchildren, Jacob Kidd, Reagan Kidd, Brianna Wilmoth, Elijah Kidd, Allison Wilmoth, Brinley Kidd, and Brody Wilmoth. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, and many very special friends who are to numerous to name. Without a doubt, her family was her greatest pride and joy.
Anna Lee was a faithful member of the Word of God Baptist Church for almost 50 years. If the doors were open, and her health permitted, she was there. She shared both her faith and her love of Southern Gospel and Bluegrass music with everyone she could.
Anna Lee was an amazing cook and baker; her cakes were legendary and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a faithful friend and neighbor and ministered to so many by taking food to those who were sick or who had lost a loved one, and by driving countless miles to carry them to doctors’ appointments, the grocery store, or to visit loved ones in hospitals and nursing homes. She loved growing flowers, decorating for Christmas, eating snow cream, and working in her vegetable garden, often canning, freezing and sharing what she grew.
Mrs. Kidd’s funeral service will be held at the Word of God Baptist Church, 3000 Asbury Road, Mount Airy, NC, on September 14, 2025. Visitation will be in the church sanctuary from 2:00 – 3:00 PM, with the funeral service beginning at 3:00 PM. A graveside service will follow immediately afterwards, with the Rev. Rickey Rogers and Rev. Tommy Nichols officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Word of God Baptist Church or to the Stokes County Emergency Medical Services.
