Mrs. Annie Mae Hiatt Smith, 75, of 2241 South Main Street, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2011, at her home. She was born May 14, 1935, in Surry County, daughter of the late Walter Hiatt, Sr. and Alice Simmons Hiatt. Mrs. Smith retired from B and J Hosiery and was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, James Haden Smith of the home; a "God Son," Adam Haynes of Clemmons; a "special" great niece and her husband, Nikki and Eric Hull of Mount Airy; several other nieces; several nephews; two "special" great great nieces, Kaylynn Hull and Hayden Hull, both of Mount Airy; a "special" friend, Lois King of Mount Airy; and a brother, Campbell "Cam" Hiatt of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Hiatt Lambert Carter and Ruth Hiatt Norman Steele; and three brothers, Walter Hiatt, Jr., Reid Hiatt, and Ed Hiatt. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Glenda Bramlet officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or Oak Grove United Methodist Church, c/o Tina Mooney, 129 Mark Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express a "special thanks" to Sabrina and Tonya of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
