Mr. Anthony “Luke” Spencer, age 73, of Lambsburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. Luke, as known by many, was born in Surry County on December 3, 1952, to the late Fred Spencer and Peggy Surratt Spencer Hawks. He was a true man of God, loving husband, father, Papa, brother and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was a faithful member of New Beginnings Community Church for 30 years where he used his gift of playing the guitar to glorify his Savior, Jesus Christ. Luke was drafted in the US Army in 1972 during the Vietnam War, being stationed in Germany. He was a talented mechanic, later becoming an Aviation mechanic. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 45 years, Bonnie “Jean” Spencer; daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah Martin and Jason, Ashley Slate and Zack; grandchildren, Alan Fletcher, Cannon Spencer, Cade Slate, Boone Slate, Kelsey Wolfe; great-grandchildren, Grayson Loyd, Alizah, Adalyn, Axel; sisters and brother-in-law, Penny Easter, Tonda Strickland and Randall, Ginger Williams; brothers and sister-in-law, Greg Spencer, Dud Spencer and Toni; numerous loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Luke was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, JF Easter, Jay Williams; sister-in-law, Karla Spencer. A celebration of Luke’s life will be held Sunday, April 26, 2026, at 2:00 PM at New Beginnings Community Church with Pastor Dud Spencer and Pastor Wes Mosteller officiating. A private burial will follow in the Surratt Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 25, 2026, at New Beginnings Community Church from 6:00 PM until 8:00. Flowers will be accepted, or donations may be made in Luke’s honor to a charity of the donor’s choice.
