Arless Monroe Long


Mr. Arless Monroe Long, 82, of Greensboro, passed away Friday, February 28, 2014, at the VA Medical Center in Salisbury. Mr. Long was born December 19, 1931, in Surry County, to Meggs Fentrice and Kate Ann Davenport Long. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy and was retired from Triad Freightliner. Mr. Long also worked for McLean Trucking for 21 years. He is survived by a special companion, Margaret Jones of Greensboro and her family; daughter Pat Newsome and sons Shane, Rusty and wife Amanda; sons Terry, Bill and wife Martha, their children, Martin and wife Heather, Megan and husband Jim, Colleen and husband Ryan; a granddaughter Renee and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by two sons, Darren Long and Jeffery Long; two sisters, Lillian Dawson and Christine Long; and a brother, William Long. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Bill Watson officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9:30 until 10:30 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard.
