Arvil Lee Johnson

Mr. Arvil Lee Johnson, 90 of Mt. Airy, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, August 30, 2016, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born in Surry County on August 6, 1926 to the late Matthew Percy Johnson and Euphrates “Sis” Fleming Johnson. Mr. Johnson was retired from Hennis Freight Lines after many years of dedicated service. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Peggy East Johnson of Universal Health Care of King; a son and a daughter-in-law, Lee and Diana Johnson of Dobson; a son-in-law, Jerry F. Goff of King; his loving grandchildren, Martha Goff and Beth Johnson Zyglis and husband Eric; a great-grandchild, Josie Sockwell. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his daughter, Sue Johnson Goff; and several brothers and sisters. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Skyline Memory Gardens at 11:00 AM with Rev. Robert McCrary officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday September 1, 2016 at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy from 9:30 - 10:30 AM. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the love and compassion shown to Arvil and the family during his stay. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, 319 Rockford St., Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or to the Joan and Howard Woltz Home, 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017.
