Mrs. Audrey Jean King Rippey, 84, of 869 Sandy Ridge Road, Cana, VA, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Rippey was born May 6, 1930, in Carroll County, VA, one of nine children born to the late Jesse and Lettie Jones King. Audrey retired from Spencer's Inc. and was a lifelong member of Paul's Creek Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who will be dearly missed by all her family and many friends. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Mike Vernon and Phyllis and Sandy Snodgrass, all of Mount Airy, and Pat and Jack Newman of Advance; six grandchildren, Angie Hall (Curtis) of Cana, VA, Amy Chandler (Steve), Jody Calloway (Reagan), and Tracy Gunter (Jason), all of Mount Airy, Seth Newman (Rebecca) of Wilmington, and Drew Newman (Kristin) of Charlotte; nine great-grandchildren, Alexandra Jones, Tanner Jones, Ethan Hall, Brady Gunter, Meghan Gunter, Hampton Newman, Gabby Calloway, Joseph Calloway, and Ayden Calloway; a sister and best friend, Ida Jones and her husband, Perry, of Cana, VA; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ethel and Clayton Combs and Effie and Lynwood Towe, all of Cana, VA; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Rawley and Ruth King of Mount Airy, and Kermit and Joyce King, Posey King, and Joyce King, all of Cana, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rippey was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Rippey; a sister, Lannie Easter; and a brother, Arnold King. The funeral service will be held Friday, April 3, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Paul's Creek Baptist Church, with the Rev. Justin McCreary and the Rev. Tony Holder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Paul's Creek Baptist Church. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
