Barbara Jo Hott Childress

Ms. Barbara Jo Hott Childress, age 81, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living. Ms. Childress was born in Forsyth County, on October 12, 1944, to the late Robert Franklin Hott and Peggy Jean Smith Wood. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sibling and friend, who will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Ms. Childress was a woman of great faith, and had a voice of an angel, that loved to sing. She worked for many years as a technician in the emergency department at Hoots Memorial Hospital. Left to cherish her memories are daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy Jo White and Donald, Lisa Ellen Johnson and Scotty, Ann Marie Smith and Anthony; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jackie Lovejoy, Wyonetta Hickman. In addition to her parents, Ms. Childress was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill Childress; her children’s father, Marvin Denny; sister, Jean. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens with Mrs. Lisa Johnson speaking. Per Ms. Childress wishes there will not be any formal visitation. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Moodys of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Childress family.
