Mrs. Barbara Ann Ledford McCraw, age 86, of Cana, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born March 1, 1940 in Surry County to the late Vance William Ledford and Lois (Lineback) Ledford Taylor. She retired from Proctor Silex and was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. She loved to tell the story of working as a carhop at the Kozy Korner, Toast, NC where she met the love of her life, Silas McCraw; he always ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and chocolate milk. Mrs. McCraw was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law: Karen Saffron of Falls Church, VA, Kimberly “Kim” McCraw of Cana, VA, and Jeanette and Bobby Phillips of Mount Airy, NC, and a son, Gregory “Greg” McCraw, of Cana, VA.
She is also survived by her sisters: Mary Clements, of Union, SC, Charlotte Mayo, of Saco, ME, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene Ledford (Linda), of Fancy Gap, VA, Jimmy “Bo” Ledford (Veronica) of Lakeland, FL; and a half-sister, Donna Taylor English of Jacksonville, FL.
Her memory will be cherished by her granddaughters: Rebecca Hill, Sarah Saffron, and Acacia Phillips; grandsons, Nathan Shull and Eric Saffron; two great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. McCraw was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Silas Issac McCraw and sister Brenda Spainhour. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and neighbors.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at 3:00 PM at New Bethel Baptist Church with service conducted by Rev. Jimmy McCraw. Burial will follow in the McCraw Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday beginning at 2:00 PM until the time for the service. Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com
