Basil Richard Caudill

It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of Basil Richard Caudill, age 79, of Dobson, NC. He passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Jenkins, Kentucky to the late RB and Samantha Elizabeth Elkins Caudill, Basil grew up with a deep love for bowling, fishing, gaming and working on anything with a motor. Above all else, Basil was a devoted family man. He leaves behind his loving wife of 36 years, Patty Caudill; his siblings, Faye (JD) Shew, Verlin Robert (Cheryl) Caudill; his children, Richard (Ann) Caudill, Kimberly Bullard (Dale Ashton), Jennifer Welcome, Lori (Kevin) Walker, Jason Rakes, Billy Smallwood, Tommy Rathbone, and Benny (Amanda) Bullard; and his cherished grandchildren, Jenna Bullard (Riley Dimmette), Maggie (Ty Brown) Bullard, Annabelle (Benjamin Tilley) Shore, Darren (Marissa McCann) Shore, Alexis (Harley Miller) Caudill, Hunter Caudill, Karleigh (Chad) Grant, Kelsea (Devin) Stone, Maycie Welcome, Madyson Welcome, Ray Caudill, Jacob Caudill, Michael Caudill, Mathew Caudill, Kressa Caudill, Kendra Caudill, and Paris Caudill; 4 great grandkids. He was an adored “Papa” who was incredibly proud of his family and always looked forward to family gatherings, good crab legs, beach trips, long motorcycle rides and lots of laughs. Basil will be remembered for his quick wit, love of NASCAR, generous nature and his willingness to help anyone in need. He was a pillar of strength, a guiding light, and a constant source of joy for all who were lucky enough to know him. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents, 4 siblings Sarah, Mary, Tamsy, Sharon and Minnie; 2 sons Jonathan Rakes and Michael Caudill; a daughter Amy Caudill. To follow Richard’s wishes there will be no funeral. He may be gone from our sight, but he will live forever in our hearts. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson, NC is serving the Caudill family.
