Beatrice Chaney Kirkman

Mrs. Beatrice Chaney Kirkman, age 102 of Mount Airy passed away earlier Tuesday morning, November 28, 2023, at Twelve Oaks Retirement Facility in Mount Airy.  Mrs. Kirkman was born August 25, 1921, in Patrick County, Virginia to the late Edward and Daisy Dunkley Chaney.  Beatrice was the oldest member of New Venture Baptist Church where she attended as long as her health allowed.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother, sister, and friend, who will be deeply missed by all that knew her.  Surviving are her daughters; Vernice Kirkman Johnson, Evelyn Kirkman Secrest, Glenda Kirkman Mears, Judy Kirkman; son and daughter-in-law, Roger Kirkman and Nellie; a son-in-law, Pastor Gary Sawyers; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; one sister, Rachel Chaney McMillian; along with several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kirkman was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Kirkman; daughter, Debra Kirkman Sawyers; son-in-law, Paul Secrest; one sister, Ruby Chaney Puckett; and two brothers, Ray Chaney, and Otis Chaney.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Larry Thomas and Pastor Gary Sawyers officiating.  Burial to follow at Midkiff Cemetery in Mount Airy.  The family will receive friends on Friday, December 1, 2023, from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.  The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Twelve Oaks Memory Care Unit and to Dr. Randy Keith and his staff for the loving care shown to Mrs. Kirkman.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
