Bertie Hiatt Hicks

Mrs. Bertie Hiatt Hicks, 94, of Surry County, passed away Friday, April 28, 2023, at Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkin, surrounded by her loving family.  Mrs. Hicks was born September 26, 1928, in Surry County, to the late Joe and Hattie Edwards Hiatt.  She was admired and adored by the many that knew her.  Left to cherish her memories are a granddaughter and her husband, Kimberly and Kevin Patterson; a grandson and his wife, Brad and Traci Goad; and four great-grandchildren, Laken Patterson, Katelyn Patterson, Reed Goad, and Jack Goad. Also surviving is a son-in-law, Jack Goad.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Hicks; a son, Gary Hicks; a daughter, Judy Goad; a sister, Annabelle Marion; and three brothers, Coy Hiatt, Roy Hiatt, and David Hiatt.  A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Josh Sechrist officiating.  No formal visitation will be held.  The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Chatham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy NC  27030.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
