Mrs. Betty Jane Barton Gramling, 93, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at the home of her daughter in Mount Airy, NC. Mrs. Gramling was born March 13, 1922, in Seneca, SC, to the late Charles Wilson and Jennie Roberts Harper. Betty was a retired switch board operator from Oconee Memorial Hospital. She loved animals, traveling, music, and dancing and was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Seneca, SC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Samuel Leo Barton; two sons-in-law, Walter Frank and Jimmy Lowry; five siblings, Oliver, Emma, Wilson, Dick, and infant brother Jeptha. Betty leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Marilyn Frank of San Diego, CA, Martha Barton-Leonard and her husband, Bennie, of Southern Pines, NC, and Sylvia Lowry of the home; three grandchildren, Roy Titus of Cle Elum, WA, Sam Frank of San Diego, CA, and Jennie Lowry and her husband, Rick Caudill, of Mount Airy, NC; and five great-grandchildren, Cheyenne and Clayton Titus of Cle Elum, WA, and James, Madeline, and Rickie Caudill of Mount Airy; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. The family would like to express their appreciation to Betty’s caregivers, Jan Atkins, Tammy Card, Carlene Creed, Becky Davis, Christine Mabe, Jill Simpson, and Jeannie Tobler. There will be no formal visitation. Interment will be held Sunday, October 4, 2015, at 3:00 PM at Oconee Memorial Gardens in Seneca, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer‘s Association, 4615 Dundas Drive, Suite 103, Greensboro, NC 27407; or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
