Betty Lou Chilton Rierson, 86, of Ararat, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, July 21, 2024, at Ridge Crest Retirement Community. Betty Lou was born on February 12, 1938, in Surry County, North Carolina, to the late Ervin Lee Chilton and Anne Vilena McGee Chilton. She grew up surrounded by the love of her parents and her twin sister, Peggy Chilton Gordon, with whom she shared a special bond throughout her life. Betty Lou's love for music and education defined her journey. She graduated from Guilford College and Winston Salem State, where she pursued her passions in French and Music. Her dedication to music extended beyond personal enrichment; for many decades, she served as the organist at Pilot Mountain First United Methodist Church, enriching the spiritual lives of the congregation. She also found joy in teaching music, inspiring countless students with her talent and passion. Betty Lou is survived by her sons and daughter in-law, Lee Rierson and Nancy Rierson, and William Frank "Chip" Rierson, III. She adored her grandsons, Bill Rierson and Ashton Rierson, who brought her immense pride and joy. Betty Lou cherished her twin sister Peggy and brother-in-law Mike Gordon, along with her nephew Troy Gordon, all of whom were dear to her heart. She also leaves behind a large circle of relatives and friends who will miss her deeply. Betty Lou was preceded in death by her husband, William Frank Rierson, Jr., and their daughter, Ruth Ann Rierson to whom she was deeply devoted.
