Mr. Billy Floyd Embry, age 76, of Cana, Virginia, entered into the gates of Heaven on Friday, June 20, 2025. He was a veteran of the United States Army, 11th Armored Calvary Blackhorse Regiment; having fought in Vietnam. He was also a retired machinist. Mr. Embry had many titles; son, husband, father, brother, and friend. However, his proudest title was Papa. He was known as Papa to everyone he met. He married his high school sweetheart, and they remained each other’s best friend throughout their 55 years of marriage. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Embry was born in Whitesboro, Texas in 1948 to the late Ben and Ruth Hall Embry. He is survived by his daughter, Angie Embry (Kathy), granddaughters, Abigail Embry (Nick), Ali Ruth Embry; grandson, Adam Treppish; daughter-in-law, Misty Rakes Embry; brother David Embry (Barbara), sister Brenda Hearl, sisters-in-law, Phyllis Dellinger (Gordon), Laura Hinkley (Rodney); and friends who became family, Mark Harris (Sheri) and Alex Bennett (Christy). Mr. Embry was preceded in the death by his wife, Mary Sue Young Embry; a son William David Embry; a grandson, Ryan William Treppish; sister, Ruby Hall Vernon, brother, Dr. Bennie Embry; and his best four-legged friend, Fisher. The family wished to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at New Charity Baptist Church in Mount Airy with Reverend Ramsey Embry officiating. Interment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens with full military rites conducted by the VFW Honor Guard Post 2019 Mount Airy and Post 9436 Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at New Charity Church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 325, Dobson, North Carolina 27017 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, Illinois 60001. "For I consider that sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us." Romans 8:18 Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
