Mr. Billy Gray Gillespie, age 77, of Dobson, NC passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC. He was born in Surry County, on January 21, 1941, to the late Wesley and Myrtle Hudson Gillespie. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Lionel Gillespie; and brother-in-law Howard Childress. He was retired from Spencer’s Manufacturing in Mt. Airy, was a lifelong farmer, and was a veteran of the US Army. He attended Crossroads Baptist Church. Surviving is his wife, Juanita Shockley Gillespie of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Tony and Julie Gillespie of Mt. Airy; Curtis Gillespie of Dobson; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Megan, Wesley, Savannah, Matthew, and Madison Gillespie; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye and Hugh Secrest of Dobson, Doris Childress of Dobson, Betty and Robert Nichols of Mt. Airy; three brothers and four sisters-in-law, Benton and Judy Gillespie of Dobson, Pete and Mildred Gillespie of Mt. Airy, Melvin and Joyce Gillespie of Dobson, and Edna Sisk of Mt. Airy. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Crossroads Baptist Church in Dobson, NC, with burial to follow in the church cemetery with full Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019, and Pilot Mtn. Post 9436.
Rev. Jeff Wall and Rev. Alton Bledsoe will officiate the services. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home of Dobson, NC, on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossroads Baptist Church, PO Box 404 Dobson, NC 27017.
