Mr. Billy Ray Johnson, 79, of 161 Critz Street, Mount Airy, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 4, 2011, at his home. Mr. Johnson was born May 27, 1932, in Surry County, the son of the late William Pryor and Piney Senter Johnson. Billy retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation and was a member of Zion Hill Primitive Baptist Church. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Joe Quesenberry of Madison and Joan and Wayne Lowe of Lowgap; a son and daughter-in-law, Darrell Ray and Ann Johnson of Dobson; four grandchildren, Kayla Lowe of Lowgap, Kari Peters and her husband, Brian, of Madison, Scott Quesenberry of San Diego, CA, and Carly Johnson of Dobson; a great-grandson, Devin Peters of Madison; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Betty June Eaton Johnson; a sister, Virginia Johnson Seal; and five brothers, Greer Johnson, Rufus Johnson, Kyle Johnson, James Johnson, and Harley Johnson. The funeral service will be held Monday, November 7, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Woody Flippen and the Rev. Tommy Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Ararat, VA. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 5950 Fairview Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28210-0093.
