Billy Gray Murray

Mr. Billy Gray Murray, 74, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday evening, June 13, 2025, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, with his loving wife by his side. He was born October 31, 1950, in Surry County, to the late Charles “Charlie” Henry Murray and Helen Frances Tolbert Murray Vipperman. He was a retired furniture worker after many years of hard work. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Helen Juanita Bowman Murray of the home; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Frances Kay East, Kathy and Rodney Gunter, Judy Murray, and Debbie Brackins; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Charles Murray, Jr. and Kyle and Donna Murray; a sister-in-law, Sandra Bowman; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend and neighbor, Sherry Martin. In addition to his parents, Mr. Murray was preceded in death by two brothers, Kennith Allan Murray and Lyle Kent Murray; his stepfather, William Claude Vipperman; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Early Drew Bowman and Nannie Mae Pack Bowman Fulp; a brother-in-law, Roger Lee Bowman; and two infant sisters, Betty Jean Bowman and Rose Marie Bowman. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Pastor Rickey Martin officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in The Peoples Church Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for all of the love and support given to Billy and the family during his illness.
