Billy Gray Murray

Mr. Billy Gray Murray, 74 of Mount Airy, passed away Friday evening June 13, 2025, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson with his loving wife by his side. He was born October 31, 1950, in Surry County to the late Charles “Charlie” Henry Murray and Helen Frances Tolbert Murray Vipperman. He was a retired furniture worker after many years of hard work. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Helen Juanita Bowman Murray of the home; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Frances Kay East, Kathy and Rodney Gunter, Judy Murray, and Debbie Brackins; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Charles Murray, Jr., and Kyle and Donna Murray; sister-in-law, Sandra Bowman; special friend and neighbor, Sherry Martin; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Murray was preceded in death by two brothers, Kennith Allan Murray and Lyle Kent Murray; stepfather, William Claude Vipperman, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Early Drew Bowman and Nannie Mae Pack Bowman Fulp; brother-in-law, Roger Lee Bowman; and by two infant sisters, Betty Jean Bowman and Rose Marie Bowman. Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 18, 2025, at 2:00pm in the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Pastor Rickey Martin officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday afternoon at Moody’s from 1:00-2:00pm. The burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for all of the love and support given to Billy and the family during his illness.
