Ms. Blanche Davenport Davis, age 87 of Mt. Airy passed away Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Ms. Davis was born in Surry County on September 27, 1924 to Joseph Glen and Emma McCraw Davenport. She retired after over forty years of service at Brown Wooten Mills in Mt. Airy. Blanche was loved dearly by her family. Nothing made her happier than the time she spent with family. She loved cooking for those she loved. Many holidays were spent in the home she shared with her mother surrounded by her family. She loved her Lord and was a dear and faithful servant. She leaves to cherish her memory: sister, Faye Jarrell and husband Norris of Mt. Airy; brother, Leonard Davenport and wife Elsie of Winston-Salem; her aunt and special friend Melba Shelton of Mt. Airy and dear friend Annie Riggs. Several special nieces and nephews that were like her own children, Kaye Rogers and her husband Jimmy and son Brian; Gray Jarrell and his wife, Judy and their children, Lori and Jody; Amy Davenport Borton and Greg Davenport and his sons, Bill Konecy and Michael. In addition to her parents, Ms. Davis was preceded in death by a brother Jack Hiram Davenport and a special family member Karen Davenport. Funeral services will be held at 12:00, Monday, August 20, 2012 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Alex Martin, Greg Davenport and Jimmy Rogers. Burial will follow in Old Hollow Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church at 314 S. Franklin Rd., Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
