Mr. Bobby Lee Hicks, 87, of Turkey Ford Road, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014, at his home. Mr. Hicks was born April 1, 1927, in Surry County, one of six children born to the late Pete and Alma Jane Sutphin Hicks. Bobby served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired as a truck driver from Roadway Express after many years of service. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia Katherine Neal Hicks of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Walter Neal and Lisa Hicks of East Bend; a granddaughter and her husband, Christina Dawn and Clay Baker of Winston-Salem; a great-grandson; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Hicks Mack of Columbus, OH; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hicks was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Leigh Hicks; and four brothers, Jack Hicks, Billy Hicks, Walter Hicks, and Ralph Hicks. The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with the Rev. Lee Johnson officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday from 9:30 until 10:30 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at American Healthcare Services, Inc., especially Rhonda Woods.
