Bobby L. Howell, 81, a loving husband and father, passed into eternal life with the Lord on Sunday, May 1, 2011, at his home in Tulsa, OK, with his family. His parents and his brother, Louis Howell, of Mount Airy, preceded him in death. Bobby is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughters and sons-in-law, Tara Howell and Steve Herzog of Tulsa, OK, and Dana and Don Larimer of Chicago, IL; a sister, Mattie Howell of Redding, CA; many nephews, nieces, and cousins; and his pets, Maggie and Molly. Bobby began life on December 9, 1930, as the son of Luther and Esther Mae Howell in Elkin. He proudly served as a corporal in the Army, in Germany, from 1952 through 1954. He received his business degree from the University of Texas in 1958, and his MBA from the University of Tulsa in 1974. He retired from Amoco in 1992, after a rewarding 34-year international auditing career, which led him from Fort Worth, TX, to Tulsa, OK, Chicago, IL, and London, England. Bobby and Carolyn were able to pursue their love of travel while living in London, and enjoyed trips around the world. He also traveled extensively giving speeches for the Institute of Internal Auditors, was on the board for the Oklahoma Baptist University, and provided for the Bobby and Carolyn Howell Scholarship Fund through OBU. Bobby, a faithful and devoted supporter of his church, Memorial Baptist, was ordained a deacon in 1973, and served as their finance committee chairperson. He treasured his friendships in his Sunday school class. He lived the Christian message to put others before himself. A celebration service, led by Dr. Marc Dreyer, will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at 4:00 PM at Memorial Baptist Church, 2800 South Yale, Tulsa, OK. Reception following. Internment will be at Oakdale Cemetery, with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain, after a visitation from 2:00 until 4:00 PM on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Moody Funeral Home, 206 West Pine Street, Mount Airy. Donations may be made to the Oklahoma Baptist Scholarship Fund, c/o OBU, 500 West University Street, Shawnee, OK 74804-2522. John 5:24 reads "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me, has eternal life; he does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life."
