Mr. Bobby Ray Johnson, 82, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 1, 2026, at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Johnson was born July 29, 1943, in Surry County, the youngest of five children born to the late Ules and Latta Mae Wall Johnson. Bobby grew up in the Ararat community and attended Eldora School. He dedicated 30 years of service to Pike Electric before retiring. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and farming, passions that reflected his love for the outdoors. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Steve Phillips; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Heather Johnson; four grandchildren, Lee Phillips, Michael Phillips, Payton Chaney, and Sarah Evans and her husband, Austin; five great-grandchildren, Audrey Phillips, Sammy Phillips, Jason Phillips, Presley Evans, and Augustus Evans; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Bingman Johnson; and four sisters, Roxann Tucker, Bessie Tilley, Annie Johnson, and Nellie Hall. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Joe Lambert officiating. Burial will follow in the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. At other times, the family welcomes friends to the home of Judy and Steve Phillips on Simpson Road in Mount Airy. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Palliative Care Team at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness shown to Bobby and his loved ones during his final days.
