Bobby Eugene Slate

Mr. Bobby Eugene Slate, 74, a loving husband and father, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, from the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Slate was born January 22, 1937, in Surry County, to the late Vestal and Lottie Edwards Slate Morton. He was a retired construction worker and a member of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Katherine Tucker Slate of the home; a son, Gary Slate and his fiancée, Tammy Bryant, of Mount Airy; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and W.L Cook of Mount Airy; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Billy Morton and Hurley and Diane Morton, all of Mount Airy; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Clara Mae and Gary Goins and Patsy Sue Morton, all of Mount Airy. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two special daughters-in-law, Teresa Slate Tesh and Chriss Slate; and many great friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Slate was preceded in death by two sons, Bobby Dean Slate and Vestal Leon Slate; three brothers, Russell Slate, Wesley Morton, and Larry Morton; and a sister, Thelma Glass. The funeral service will be held Friday, May 13, 2011, at 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Bill Tucker and the Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Willis Gap Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
