Mount Airy

Her favorite scripture was John 3:16, and her faith carried her throughout her life.

Brenda Sue Stevens Bowman, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at Mountain Valley Hospice in Dobson, North Carolina.

Born in Patrick County, Virginia, to the late Minnie Mae Thompson Stevens and Johnny Garfield Stevens, Brenda later made Surry County, North Carolina, her home. She was known for her kind heart, strong faith, and lifelong dedication to caring for her family.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Sandy Bowman; and her brother, Mike Stevens.

She is survived by her loving husband, Billy Lee Bowman, whom she married on October 16, 1968. Together they shared nearly 58 years of love and devotion. She is also survived by her children, Randy Bowman (Veronica), Billy Bowman (Melissa), and Ronnie Bowman (Kelly); her brothers, Johnny Stevens (“Button”) and David Stevens (Carol); and her sisters, Phyllis Stevens and Shirley Mathis.

Brenda’s legacy of love, faith, and selflessness will live on through all who knew and loved her.

Brenda enjoyed cooking, watching Days of Our Lives, listening to bluegrass gospel music and Conway Twitty, feeding birds, admiring flowers, and spending time outdoors. Above all, she loved her family and cherished every moment spent with them.

She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Hope Hedgepeth (Seth), whom she loved as a daughter; Stephanie Sprinkle (Caleb); Christopher Bowman; Adam Bowman (Hailey); and Madison Stevenson (Brian). She was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Enzly Stevenson, and looked forward to the arrival of her great-grandson, Brody Stevenson, expected in September 2026.

Above all, Brenda loved the Lord. Her favorite scripture was John 3:16, and her faith carried her throughout her life.

Brenda’s legacy of love, faith, and selflessness will live on through all who knew and loved her. While she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace in the presence of her Savior.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” — John 3:16
