Brenda Joyce Westmoreland Ayers

Mrs. Brenda Joyce Westmoreland Ayers, 86, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 1, 2026, at Waddell Nursing Center in Galax, Virginia. She was born on June 25, 1940, in Surry County to the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl and Mary Louise Chappell Westmoreland. Mrs. Ayers was a member of Mount Bethel Moravian Church and retired from Renfro Hosiery Mill after several years of service. She is survived by her two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Lynn Ayers and wife Fay, and Ralph Carlton Ayers; grandchildren, Ethan Ayers, Aaron and Penny Powell, and Amy and Matt McCrobie; two great-grandchildren, Kari Powell and Hayden Morris; and several other family friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ayers was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ralph Connor Ayers, Jr.; and by two sisters, Billie Nell Westmoreland Hiatt and husband Robert, and Sharon and Tommy Sparger, and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 5, 2026, from 1:00 – 2:00pm at Moody’s. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Mount Bethal Moravian Church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Waddell Nursing Home for all of the love and care given to Brenda during her stay.
