Bruce Roger Hawks went to his heavenly home Sunday June 8, 2025, with his wife, Shelby, of 56 years by his side. Bruce was the Sound Director at church for many years. He made a weekly radio broadcast for Little Mountain Baptist Church that aired on WPAQ every Sunday morning. At age 17, he built the house that we still live in today. This was the start of his career in carpentry work. He worked for Brinkley Home Improvements, Blue Ridge Enterprise, and Fortis Homes. In 1989 he became a subcontractor and trimmed many houses with his son Travis and daughter Melinda by his side and turned over the business to Travis in 2023. Bruce still worked trimming his last house on January 29, 2025. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Shelby Jane Atkins Hawks of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Travis and Marty Hawks, and Noel and Charity Hawks; a daughter and son-in-law, Melinda Hawks-Mills and husband John, 10 grandchildren and spouses, Rebekah Moore and husband Caleb, John David Hawks, Bethany Dougherty and husband John, Abigail Mitten and husband Jack, Caleb Hawks and wife Hannah, Jonathan Hawks and wife Alyssa, Jared Hawks, Andrew Hawks, Nathan Hawks, and Angel Hawks and fiancé Gaven Young; 7 great grandchildren, Callie Moore, Carson Moore, Adelyn Moore, Jedediah Moore, Holland Mitten, Avonlea Mitten, and Haven Mitten; great grandson John Mitten on the way; 2 sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Jane Hawks and husband Wade, and Edna Smith Hanks; and several other family and friends.
