Buford Allen Barbour

Mr. Buford Allen Barbour, age 81 of Spencer, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024, at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina.  He was born on March 10, 1942. He was raised by the late Johnie Cooper and Edith Cooper and his biological parents, the late Jim Pete Barbour and Estelle Deal Barbour.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Leon Cooper and Doug Cooper; a sister, Carol DeBruhl and half-brother, J.P. Barbour.  

Mr. Barbour was a lifelong member of Stella Christian Church where he served as a deacon.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard. He was an outdoorsman who loved gardening, hunting, and fishing and was a founding member of the High Standard Hunting Club.  He was a retired welder and mechanic from DuPont with over 30 years of service. He loved antiques and Ford Mustangs. His humble character and generosity will be remembered by the many lives that he touched. Buford was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Mr. Barbour is survived by his wife of 61 years, Myra Elizabeth Stone Barbour; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa Barbour Wilkinson and Gregory Nie Wilkinson, Revonda Barbour Gilbert and Christopher Dean Gilbert; a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory Allen Barbour and Sandra Astudillo Barbour; four grandchildren, Trevor Wilkinson (Amanda Wilkinson), Karleigh Wilkinson (ShaVun Taylor), Christian Gilbert (Makayla Gilbert), Ethan Gilbert (Amanda Gilbert); two great-grandchildren, Kayden Taylor and Connor Gilbert; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends and relatives.

Funeral services will be held for Mr. Barbour on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Stella Christian Church with Pastor Steve Hayes and Pastor Curt Ashley officiating. The burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery.  Military Rites provided by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church.   Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Woltz Hospice Home, P.O.
