Calvin Cleveland Davis

Calvin Cleveland Davis 10/21/1958 – 10/23/2023 Calvin, at 65 years old went home peacefully into the arms of Jesus in the early morning hours of Monday, October, 23, 2023.  He has won the victory over his tired and worn out body.   Calvin began working as a heavy equipment diesel mechanic at the age of 15.  He owned and operated Davis Diesel Repair for over 25 years until his retirement due to health issues.   He was known as “the best in the business” by many in the heavy equipment industry.   Calvin was a faithful and dedicated member of Chestnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Ararat, VA as long as his health permitted.  He was passionate about the loving and saving grace of his Lord Jesus Christ.  He made sure to tell everyone about his salvation and his great God.    He wanted everyone to know it’s not “good bye” it’s “see ya later” until we meet again! Calvin was born in Surry County to the late Grover and Peggy (Ratcliff) Davis. He was also preceded in death by two nephews, Kenneth David Davis, Jr. and Anthony Danny Vaughn, Sr.  He is survived by his partner of 27 years, Tina Lyons Smith of the home in Ararat, VA, one son, Jeremiah Steven (Patrick) Davis of Highpoint, NC, two sisters, Sandra Davis and Trena (David) Schumaker both of Mount Airy, NC, four brothers, Kenneth Davis, Sr. of Morganton, NC, Ricky (Ginger) Davis, Michael (Terri) Davis and Jeff Davis all of Mount Airy, NC, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.  Calvin is also survived by a bonus son, Nakoma (Wendy) Smith of Dobson, NC and three bonus sister-in-law’s, April Lyons (Brent) Johnson of Pilot Mountain, NC, Debra Lyons (Morten) Kristensen and Sandra Lyons both of Lambsburg, VA and two bonus granddaughters, Lainey Smith and Natalie Smith of Dobson, NC. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Northern Regional Hospital, his pastor Rev. Arlis Thomas and a special friend Morten Kristensen for the love, care and support shown to Calvin.    There will be no formal visitation but there will be a celebration of life for Calvin at a later date.  Moody Funeral Services of Mount Airy is servicing the family.
