Mr. Carl Ray Freeman, 75, of 143 Centerwood Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Friday night, May 11, 2012, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Freeman was born August 17, 1936, in Surry County, the son of the late Earlie Richard and Alice Geneva Johnson Freeman. Carl was stationed in Germany while serving in the artillery unit of the United States Army in 1957. He worked as a bus monitor for Surry County Schools for many years and was formerly a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He is survived by his former wife, Geneva Irene Reece Freeman of Mount Airy; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Michelle and Tony Childress of Mount Airy; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Christopher Ray and Ginger Freeman, Jonathan Todd Freeman, and Mark Anthony Freeman, all of Mount Airy; seven grandchildren, Casey Freeman, Corey Childress, Abbi Freeman, Chloe Freeman, Tisha Freeman Jarrell and her husband, Keith, Brittany Freeman, and Hunter Freeman; a great-granddaughter, Brylee Jarrell; an expectant great-grandson, Dexter Wayne Ray Jarrell; a sister, Helen Freeman Williams of Mount Airy; a brother, Jack Freeman of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Freeman Mathis and Lillian Freeman O'Neal; and two brothers, John Freeman and Gene Freeman. To celebrate Carl's life, the family will receive friends Wednesday, May 16, 2012, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the home of Carl Ray Freeman, 143 Centerwood Drive (off North Franklin Road), Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Handyman Ministry at the Surry Baptist Resource Center, 364 Welch Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy will be in charge of the cremation and serving the family.
