Carl William Marshall

Mr. Carl William Marshall, 84, of 231 Janice Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday morning, April 25, 2012, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Marshall was born July 13, 1927, in Surry County, the son of the late F.C. "Kit" and Maggie Scott Marshall. Carl enlisted in the United States Navy on July 6, 1945. He proudly served our country in the Navy for 23 years, retiring as an EN2 in May 1968. Mr. Marshall was an avid gardener and will be remembered throughout the community for sharing his many homegrown fruits and vegetables with family, friends, and neighbors. His love and caring spirit will be remembered by his family and friends for many years. Mr. Marshall was a member of White Plains Friends Meeting. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Money Moore of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews, Barth and Lora Tesh of Salisbury, Craig and Jane Tesh, Sherry Moore and her fiancé, Randy Dollyhigh, Jack Moore, Jr. and Candice Moore, Krista and Mike Jones, Dennis E. and Lavonne Moore, Anne Spencer, and Karol Moore, all of Mount Airy, and Joe Moore and Margaret McLendon, both of Florida. In addition to his parents, Mr. Marshall was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Mae Moore Marshall; two sisters, Josephine (Roy) Johnson and Edith Allyene "Sue" (Bill) Tesh; a brother, Gurney Winfred Marshall; and three brothers-in-law, Raymond (Myrtlene) Moore, Jack (Helen) Moore, Sr., and Wesley Alvis Moore. A graveside service will be held Friday, April 27, 2012, at 4:00 PM at White Plains Friends Meeting Cemetery, with Pastor Dennis E. Moore officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard and the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Friday from 3:00 until 3:45 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the White Plains Friends Meeting Cemetery Fund, 849 Old Highway 601, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for the love and compassionate care extended to Carl during his sickness.
