Carl Rufus Willard

Mr. Carl Rufus Willard age 89 of Greensboro, NC and formally of Mt. Airy passed away Wednesday August 26, 2011 at the Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro, NC. Mr. Willard was born August 4, 1922 in Surry County to the late Sam Edgar and Ida Magdeline Willard, he was a veteran of the US Navy, was retired from the Engineering Department of the City of Greensboro and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro. Surviving are one sister Opal W. Sgambati and her husband Dr. Stephen Sgambati of Mechanicsville, NY. and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Mr. Willard was preceded in death by his wife Rossie Moore Willard, one sister Sammie W. Creed and by one brother Byron Willard. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday November 5, 2011 at 10:00 AM. at the First Baptist Church located at 1000 W. Friendly Ave. in Greensboro. The family will receive friends in the parlor following the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center at P.O. Box 3228 Durham, NC. 27710 or to the charity of their choice.
