Mr. Carlos Franklin Surratt, 88 of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday night, November 13, 2025, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born May 9, 1937, in Carroll County to the late Ivy Olen Surratt and Ila Faye Hawks Surratt. He was retired from Lowes Hardware and was of the Baptist faith. Carlos always wanted to be a racecar driver. He and his wife loved to travel and enjoyed going to places like Dollywood to enjoy the music. Mr. and Mrs. Surratt always opened their home to all that had a need. Left to cherish his memory are four daughters, Betty and Rusty Spears, Cathy Surratt, Brenda and Ronald Hawks, and Linda Jones and Roscoe; two sons, Olen Franklin Surratt and Rosa, and Steven Surratt and Candice; 13 grandchildren with one on the way, 7 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren; sisters, Norma and Hugh Kerney, and Patty Mauldin; and several other family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Surratt was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Margaret Inez Jones Surratt; two grandchildren, Damarties Pozo and Edgar Pozo; a great granddaughter, Paisley Shiver; three sisters, Iva Lee Surratt Gunnell, Doris Jeane Surratt Hawks, and infant Donnie Lee Surratt; and three brothers, , Horace Dean “Bud” Surratt, Arlie Berlin Surratt, and Harlie Donald Surratt. Funeral services will be held in the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy on Monday November 17, 2025, at 2:00pm with Pastor Gene Brinkley and Pastor Rusty Spears officiating. Burial will follow in the Susie Hawks Family Cemetery. The Surratt family will receive friends on Monday from 12:30 – 2:00pm at Moody’s. A huge thank you to Michael Crouse, Chris Crouse, Ethan Crouse and Ayden Crouse for all of the love and help with Grandpa while he was sick. Also, a special thanks to Woltz Hospice Home for all of the love, care, and support given to Carlos and the family during his illness. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
