Carol Sue Tolbert Beck

Mrs. Carol Sue Tolbert Beck, 80, of Pilot Mountain, passed away Friday morning, January 14, 2022, at Northern Regional Hospital in Mount Airy. Mrs. Beck was born August 9, 1941, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Hubert Lee and Mecie Hodges Tolbert. Carol worked as a hostess at Dairi-O in King and a cashier at Dollar General in Pilot Mountain and Pinnacle. She loved all her customers and considered it a privilege to serve each one. Carol truly loved life, and she treasured each day as a gift. Her family and friends will remember her fondly for her outgoing personality, love for others, and her musical talents. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Dale Ashburn of Pilot Mountain; a son, Danny Ray Beck of Pilot Mountain; her grandchildren, Brandon Dale and Margaret Ashburn of Roanoke, VA, Cody Ray Ashburn and Haley Snow of Pilot Mountain, and Megan Beck of Pilot Mountain; a stepgrandchild, Maggie Edwards of Kernersville; a great-grandchild, Edward Whitaker “Whit” Ashburn of Roanoke, VA; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Carl and Ruby Tolbert of Pinnacle and Phyllis Tolbert of Mount Airy; a brother-in-law, Russell Beck of Pilot Mountain; a sister-in-law, Rose Ann Bullington of Pinnacle; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Beck was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Carl Ray Beck; a sister, Myrtle O’Neal; and five brothers, Ralph Tolbert, Herbert Tolbert, Floyd Tolbert, Roy Tolbert, and Troy Tolbert. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Larry Stone and Bro. Danny Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Anchor Baptist Church Cemetery in Ararat. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. At other times, the family welcomes friends to the Beck home at 367 Sam Fulk Road, Pilot Mountain. Due to public health concerns, attendees are requested to wear a face mask.
