Carol Ellen Scott Balkum

Mrs. Carol Ellen Scott Balkum, age 76, of Ararat, NC passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Balkum was born on December 6, 1949, in Hartford, CT to the late James Gibson and Nellie Taylor Scott. She was 76 years young. An avid skier, rock climber and a lover of fun, Carol would always say that she had a PHD in life. She played mother to many young minds as a boys dorm counselor of High Mowing School.

She was Intelligent, Friendly, an Artist, A Fighter. She always saw the positive and found the fun in everyday set before her.

Surviving is her son, Nicholas Balkum; nephew, Park Gamble; and Brother In-law Ryan Chamberlin; along with several other family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Earl Thomas Balkum; daughter, Catherine Taylor Balkum; son, James Thomas Balkum; sister, Edythe Scott Chamberlin; and brother, Robert James Scott. A private gathering will be held at a later time.
