Ms. Carol Hodges Simmons, age 87, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday morning, November 17, 2025. Ms. Simmons was born on February 10, 1938, in Raleigh County, West Virginia, to the late Walter Edgar Hodges and Effie Garretson Hodges. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she’ll be deeply missed by all who knew her. Our loving mother grew up in hard times, facing heartbreak and hardships, but never changed the person she was inside. She never spoke ill of others, she was gentle and soft-natured, always doing for others more than herself. She was creative and very intelligent, always learning and taking classes through the years, she loved being in plays in school, and skipped grades for academics. She worked tirelessly for her family, she was humble, kind and caring. In her spare time, she gardened and cooked homemade meals for her family, and others as well. She was a long-time member of Mount Airy Wesleyan, where she loved her church family, and never wavered in her faith. She worked up until age 82, due to Covid. Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Kimberly Simmons; son, Christopher Simmons; daughter-in-law, Tracy O’Connell Simmons; precious grandchildren, Trevor Hamilton and Melissa, Torrance Hamilton, Summer Hamilton, Fallon Cook, Peyton Simmons and Erica Isaacs, Devin Simmons and Melody Kay, Ryan Simmons, Sheldon Simmons, Samuel Simmons and Mallory, great-granddaughter, Genevieve “Evie” Kate Simmons. In addition to her parents, Ms. Simmons was preceded in death by her son, David Simmons. A funeral service for Ms. Simmons will be held Friday, November 21, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Richard Loman officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 12:30 PM until time of the service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. “She was always there for us no matter what, she will be missed beyond measure, and we will treasure our precious memories forever.” We love you Mama and Na Na, your so very special.
