Carol Ella Tate Smith

Mrs. Carol Ella Tate Smith, 82, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday night, August 20, 2022, at Northern Regional Hospital.  Mrs. Smith was born March 14, 1940, in Surry County, one of ten children born to the late Jess Harris and Maude Edwards Tate.  Carol retired from Spencer’s Inc. after 23 years of service and was a member of Imogene Baptist Church.  She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Lee Smith of the home; two grandsons, Bobby Lee Smith and Timothy Justin Bowman, both of the home; three brothers, John Jefferson Tate and Michael Ray Tate, both of Mount Airy, and Franklin Harris Tate of Lambsburg, VA; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Lee Smith; four sisters, Mary Ruth Jenkins, Margaret Tate, Mildred Irene Edwards, and Shirley Nance; and two brothers, Jim Tate and Lonnie Tate.  A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Tate Family Cemetery, with the Rev. Jimmy McCraw and the Rev. Anthony Smith officiating.  No formal visitation will be held.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
