Mr. Carrol Wesley Vick, 84, of Ararat, VA, passed away Wednesday evening, September 18, 2024, at Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center in Galax, VA. Mr. Vick was born December 3, 1939, in Haywood County, NC, the son of the late Glenn Wesley and Frankie Lequire Vick. Carrol was reared in the mountains of North Carolina. After enlisting in the United States Army, Carrol bravely served in Vietnam, where he earned numerous commendations for his courage and dedication. His experiences shaped his life and instilled in him a deep sense of duty and honor. Following his active-duty military service, he continued to serve as a member of the National Guard, where he was known for his leadership and commitment to his fellow soldiers. Carrol was a valued permit officer with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, contributing to the state in meaningful ways. In addition to his theatrical pursuits, including acting and directing, at the Surry Arts Council, Mr. Vick became a beloved volunteer at Northern Regional Hospital. His compassion and willingness to help others made a lasting impact on patients and staff alike. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Mount Airy, NC. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Fran Beck Vick; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jay and Barbara Vick, Barry Vick, and Keith and Susan Vick; his grandchildren, Joshua and Chloe Vick, Austin Vick, and Xander Vick; three great-grandchildren, Teddy Vick, Daisy Vick, and Goldie Vick; three great-stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Jenkins, Ryleigh Jenkins, and Mason Jenkins; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Elaine Bowman, Barbara and Sonny Morgan, Catherine and Steve Barker, and Pat Cruthis; a brother, Delbert Vick; and several nieces and nephews. A service of worship and celebration of Carrol’s life will be held Monday, September 23, 2024, at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Mount Airy, NC, with the Rev. Jay Meadows and the Rev. Kevin Minix officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point, NC, with military honors conducted by the Randolph County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, NC. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516; or First Baptist Church, 714 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
