Mr. Charles Ray Cassell, age 82 of Mount Airy, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Lotus Village Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Sparta. Mr. Cassell was born on August 3, 1943, in Surry County to the late Samuel Ellis Cassell, Sr. and Luna Lenora Atkins Cassell. Charles retired in 2005 from Wayne Farms Poultry Company after 43 years of dedicated service. Mr. Cassell was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Surviving is his sons and daughters-in-law, Randy Cassell and Dawn, Chad Cassell and Christy, three grandchildren, Noelle Gunter Tate and Zach, Avery Cassell, Michael Harrison and Jessica; four great-grandchildren; three sisters and brother-in-law, Shelby Cassell Sawyers and Harvey, Alene Cassell Cockerham, Jewel Cassell Hutson; a brother, Reverend MacArthur Cassell and Joann; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cassell was preceded in death by a daughter, Candy Jean Cassell Gunter; and six sisters, Inez Cassell Hutson, Lena Cassell Tuttle, Wanda Cassell Atkins, Mildred Cassell Sawyers, Earnestine Cassell Venable, Lavern Cassell Bruner; and two brothers, Samuel Ellis Cassell, Jr. and Jonas Wainwright “Wayne” Cassell. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Union Primitive Baptist Church with Reverend MacArthur Cassell and Brother Jeff Cassell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Union Primitive Baptist Church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Medi Hospice and Lotus Village Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation for the loving and compassionate care provided to Mr. Cassell during his illness. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
