Charles Edward Cook Jr

Charles Edward "Ed" Cook Jr., 77, of Mount Airy, died Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born November 13, 1937, in Danville, VA, to Charles Edward Cook and Flossie Darnell Cook. He is survived by his wife, Claudette Testerman Cook. He is also survived by three children, Charles E. "Chuck" Cook III (Amanda) of Mount Airy, Tammy Cook Heffinger (Thomas) of Eden, and Carlene Cook Bailey (Jerry) of Danville, VA. Mr. Cook was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey Dean Cook. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Survivors also include three brothers, Jerome D. Cook (Barbara), Norman T. Cook (Elaine), and Rodger E. Cook of Franklin, TN. Mr. Cook served his country during the Korean War as a Security Agent in the United States Army. He was a proud graduate of Virginia Tech and served as the Chief Financial Officer at several North Carolina hospitals, including Northern Hospital of Surry County, where he was also an interim hospital administrator and involved in the hospital association. Mr. Cook loved the communities in which he lived and was actively involved in many civic organizations. He was an Eagle Scout and scout leader, as well as a former member of the Demolay, Shiners, and Masons. He was past president of the Mount Airy Lions Club and a member of Central United Methodist Church. Mr. Cook enjoyed camping, blue grass music, dancing, and fishing. The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Pastor Jim Pyatt officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests any honorariums be made to Central United Methodist Church, Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, or Surry Arts Council.
