Mr. Charles Herbert Hooker, 83, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012, in Gaithersburg, MD. Mr. Hooker was born November 30, 1928, in Patrick County, VA, to the late Merritt Howard and Lou Ada Goin Hooker. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. He retired from the Mount Airy City Schools and gave over 20 years of service to Pike Electric. Mr. Hooker was a member of the Shelton Church of the Brethren. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Leftwich Hooker of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip and Kay Hooker of Gaithersburg, MD, and Jon and Fay Hooker of Mount Airy; six grandchildren, Haley Hooker and Anna Lindamood, of Mount Airy, and Jessica, Matthew, Lauren, and Erin Hooker, all of Gaithersburg, MD; and a sister, Patsy Smith of Claudville, VA. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Pastor Ted Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shelton Church of the Brethren Benevolence Fund, 1065 Quaker Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
