Mr. Chester McAlpine, 80, formerly of Cana, VA, passed away early Thursday morning, August 23, 2012, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. McAlpine was born May 1, 1932, in Warrior, AL, the son of the late Homer and Clara Belle Simmons McAlpine. Chester served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a self-employed barber in Shady Spring, WV, for many years. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and John Goad of Cana, VA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Sheila McAlpine of Union, WV, and Chester Calvin and Loretta McAlpine of Hinton, WV; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Magdalene McAlpine Stewart and Geraldine McAlpine Hall, both of Matheny, WV; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Joe McAlphine of Beaver, WV, and Clarence and Carol Slatton of Talcott, WV; and a half-sister, Hazel Richmond of Richmond, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. McAlpine was preceded in death by two sisters, Willodene McAlpine Stewart and Josephine McAlpine Stewart; and a brother, Paul McAlpine. Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy will be in charge of the cremation and arranging the final disposition on the McAlpine Family Farm in Ellison, WV. There are no local services planned.
