Christine Elizabeth Walker Hawks

Mrs. Christine Elizabeth Walker Hawks, 85, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, March 9, 2015, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Christine was born September 10, 1929, to Clarence and Arsie Walker in Madison Heights, VA, and raised in Lynchburg, VA. She married Carroll Gray Hawks, Sr. on December 21, 1946, when Carroll returned from World War II. They raised their three sons in Lambsburg, VA. Christine, also known as "Teenie" to all her friends and family, was a member of Lambsburg Baptist Church for 68 years. She is survived by two sons, Clarence L. Hawks of Mount Airy and Ronald W. Hawks, Sr. and his wife, Salena Hawks, of Safety Harbor, FL. She has four grandchildren, Amanda Lukas and her husband, Roger, of Advance, Andrew Hawks and his wife, Courtney, of Mount Airy, Ronald Hawks Jr. of Orlando, FL, and Shanna Hawks of Winston-Salem. Amanda and Roger blessed Christine with four great-grandchildren, Caleb Childress, Madelyn Lukas, Hailey Lukas, and Grace Lucas. Christine also has many nieces and nephews that she loved. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carrol Gray Hawks, Sr.; her youngest son, Carroll Gray Hawks, Jr.; seven brothers; and a sister. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 14, 2015, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. The Rev. Billy Moore will be officiating the funeral service at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 15, 2015, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. Burial will follow at Chestnut Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Lambsburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested for memorials to be made to the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407-2145; or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
